Academy End of Year Showcase and Awards 2018

At the Tendring Brass Academy end of year concert on Friday 6th of July 2018 there were five bands and small ensembles, a number of fantastic soloists and even a bass guitar in our percussion group!

The evening started with an air of expectation from the audience, made up of family and friends. Performing first was the Beginners Band playing some classic Disney marches and showing supporters how the band warms up every Tuesday, finishing the first set very suitably with Match of the Day. This was followed by two of our newest members doing a couple great solos and a Tenor Horn duet, and after that there was our Novice and Intermediate groups, followed by the interval with tea and cakes.

To start back was our Big Band adult group run by Phil Leatherdale playing some Glenn Miller and music from Grease and then our first Clarinet solo from Jenna. After more solos, the Quintet played the TV theme from The Simpsons and a collection of Disney tunes. Yet more solos followed, all of which were played very well. Our last group of the evening was the percussion group run by Derek Douglas, featuring Asher on Bass Guitar and Morgen on Glockenspiel playing a twelve bar blues arrangement.

We then finished the concert with the Beginners Band once again taking to the stage to music from the Disney film Moana, Milenberg Joys, and as an encore Manhattan Spiritual, followed by rapturous applause from the audience.

Finally the Declan Heath shield was awarded for Bandsman of the year.
This year the shield went to Chloe Debath. Well done Chloe and well deserved!

After lots of hard work over the year from all of the students they played a brilliant concert for family, friends and supporters of the band which everybody enjoyed.

Well played everyone!
