Tendring Brass have a policy of promoting Brass Band music throughout the area, and to give everyone an opportunity to not only enjoy the music, but to also play it!
For a number of years, we have run our Tendring Brass Academy, with the idea of making music available and affordable to all, and is open to all ages and abilities.
We are pleased to announce that our Academy will now be held at our Bandroom in Wix, Essex, and is open to new players, or to players who perhaps played some while ago and are ‘a bit rusty’, but have a desire to get back into playing, particularly as part of a larger group.
Tendring Brass have a number of instruments which are available for free use by new players.
The Academy meet at our Bandroom in Harwich Road, Wix on a Tuesday evening, during school term time, starting at 5.30pm. The evening consists of group music theory teaching, and then Beginners Brass group music. New players will be mentored by more experienced players as help and encouragement to enable progression. At 7pm, the beginners will leave, but the more able members will be able to remain for the Community Band, which starts at 7.15, and be able to play more advanced music. This group ends at 8.30pm.
The Academy is staffed by members of the Band, each of whom has DBS certification, but to ensure we have a Safe environment, we have a Child Protection Policy in place as part of our Tendring Brass Constitution. We work closely with Brass Bands England, and Essex County Council to ensure that we comply with Safeguarding guidelines.
With Safeguarding in mind, we actively encourage parents of our younger members to fully engage with staff, and if necessary, the Band Committee with such matters as Health and Safety, safe transportation, and when necessary Child Performance legislation.
