Resume of recent Band activities during the Pandemic.
Tendring Brass are an organisation filled with lots of different people who all share the passion of music making together, from the age of 13 through to members at the age of 80!
Even though the band could not get together to play during 2020, a few members have been working throughout the year on Project One at The Legion Hall, Wix , to make it a more suitable place for the band to rehearse. The whole building is gradually being completely updated (as funds allow) and our first project of storage and kitchen area is almost complete.
2020 was virtually a non-existent year for the band in a musical sense with it being impossible to get together, but this year we are turning things around.
We started rehearsing virtually in different groups from January 2021, via zoom, to get everybody playing again, even if we could not be in the same room. We used these virtual rehearsals to practice the piece ‘Star Lake’ by Eric Ball for an on line ‘Whit Friday’ March Contest as this could obviously not take place in person this year.
On 27th February 2021, Tendring Brass also received an invitation to play the piece ‘Lions of Legends’ for the National Brass Band finals at Cheltenham in September later this year. We will be representing the London and Southern Counties second section, which will be a huge honour for us. It has been fun rehearing this piece together as a band virtually and we cannot wait to bring it all together live.
We have a number of concerts coming up towards the end of the year, including our annual remembrance concert at the West Cliff theatre in Clacton on the 7th November entitled ‘Healing our World’. This will mark the 100th year of the British Legion, include a big Thank You to the NHS for everything they have done throughout the year and the band will pay tribute to Harvey Powell, who has supported Tendring Brass Academy over many years and unfortunately passed away recently. During this concert we will also be joined by CADS to show case scenes from the stage performance of the popular film “Brassed Off”. Having cancelled this production in 2020 we are delighted that CADS have invited us to perform with them this November 2021. Show dated are 25th to 27th November”. Tickets for both concerts are available now at the Box office, West Cliff Theatre, Clacton.
The band has struggled financially for the past year, as have many other people and groups within the performing arts industry. Keeping up with the costs of updating the band room has been difficult and funding our trip to the national finals in Cheltenham will deplete our finances considerably. It would mean a lot to us for the public to come and support us once again at concerts and events as we try to resume live musical entertainment in a way that is as normal as possible and we again try to ‘Heal our World’ with music.

We thank our Friends for their continued support. We are determined that after this challenging time, we will get back into the Bandroom as soon as we can, and continue our work within our Music Academy, Community Band and Main Band for the benefit and entertainment of the community.
