“Memories” Westcliff Remembrance Concert 2019

“Probably the best yet ” – was a comment following our recent Remembrance Concert at the Westcliff Theatre, Clacton. An almost packed theatre of between 400- 450 had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon being entertained by the Band, with their special guests Chase Lane School Choir.

The Choir were on fantastic form, and the Band would like to express their thanks to the children who performed so well, the helpers who ensured everyone involved was safe, and to the School leadership for allowing the Choir to attend the event. The children were a credit to the school.

The afternoon was based on the ‘Memories’ theme, featured pieces which provided the audience with a variety of nostalgic thoughts form years gone by. The Band were also on top form, a testimony to the time and hard work spent rehearsing for the concert.

Particular mention to Ellie Bould and Chloe Jay, who on Cornet, faultlessly played the Flower Duet Arranged by Philip Sparke, during the first half of the concert.

During the second half, Becky Smith treated the audience to a Flugel Horn solo “Big Spender” shortly followed by the intrepid duo of Guy Lever and Andrew Cole with their Euphonium duet “Me and my Shadow” – no doubt causing much Toe-tapping amongst the very appreciative audience.

Traditionally in the Bands Remembrance concerts, there is a time to reflect on the sacrifice made by so many over the years for our freedom, and this year the Act of Remembrance was preceeded by the poignant piece ‘Final Countdown/Love Changes Everything’ arranged by a friend of the Band, David Cole in commemoration of the 11 Royal Marine Bandsmen who lost their lives in the Deal bombing in September 1989.

A reflective end to a great afternoon of musical entertainment . Well done to everyone involved.
