Tendring Brass recently held a training weekend at their bandroom in Wix.
The weekend was part of the Band’s ongoing development and training programme, aimed specifically at the Bands forthcoming entries into the SCABA Spring Contest in Brighton, and the London and Southern Counties area competition of the Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
The weekend was directed by the Bands Musical advisor and friend David Johnson.
We began on Friday night with a run through of the ‘The Golden Sabre’, the piece of music set for 2nd Section bands, to allow David to gauge the level of work needed to bring the performance up to contest standard. We soon realised we had a lot to accomplish.
Saturday was a day split in to workshops for the different sections within the band, culminating in a Lower Section run through. Our supporters kindly provided Pie & Pint at lunch time and plied us with lots of cups of tea and cake at the various intervals.
Sunday was full day 10-3pm of continually repeating performances and concentrating on some technicalities, rhythms and general ensemble togetherness. David announced that our last run through of the piece, before he began his long journey back to Cornwall, was a significant improvement of Fridays first performance and that he had been pleased with all our work to reach that standard. He set us all some homework! ready to impress him when he returns in March!! we hope.
